International Labour Day also known as International Worker's Day is an official public holiday celebrated all over the world in various countries as an important international day. In more than 80 countries of the world Labour Day is observed on May 1 every year to pay tribute to the contribution of workers across the world.

Labour Day has different origin stories in different countries and it is also observed on different dates like in USA labor day is observed on the first Monday in September. Labour Day in India: 1 May every year

The first Labour Day was celebrated in Madras (present Chennai) on May 1, 1923 by the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan. It was also the first time when the Red Flag which symbolizes Labour Day was used in India. Labour day is linked to labour movements for communist and socialist political parties.

Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States. This year labor day will be observed on 5 September 2022 in USA. In USA Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September to honor and recognize the American labor movement. This day also marks the the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States.

Beginning in the late 19th century when the trade union and labor movements grew, leaders of trade unions proposed that a day be set aside to celebrate labor. Then "Labor Day" was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor. They organized the first parade in New York City. Oregon was the first state of the United States to make it an official public holiday in the year 1887. In 1894 it became an official federal holiday and thirty states in the United States officially celebrated Labor Day. Labour Day in Canada is also celebrated on the first Monday of September. 

More than 80 countries of the world celebrate Labour Day or International Workers' Day on May 1 every year which is the ancient European holiday of May Day. May 1 or May Day was chosen by the Second International of socialist and communist parties to commemorate the Haymarket affair that was occurred in Chicago on May 4, 1886.
