World Food Safety Day is celebrated across the world on 7th June. In 2018 United Nations proclaimed 7th June as World Food Safety Day to draw global attention to health issues that result consequent upon eating contaminated food and water. The first World Food Safety Day was celebrated across the world on 7th June 2019.

Food safety has a critical role in assuring food stays safe in every stage of the food chain from production to consumption to prevent food-borne illness. It is a scientific process to ensure that food stays good enough at every level viz handling, preparation, and storage of food. Food safety is a shared responsibility of governments, producers, and consumers at their level. Everybody has a role to play from production to consumption to ensure the food we consume is safe enough for consumption and will not cause any health issues. WHO pursues its efforts through World Food Safety Day to mainstream food safety in the public agency and reduce food-borne disease across the world.
